"InCastro – Stone Paths" is a journey through time and space connecting the three municipalities of Balsorano, San Vincenzo Valle Roveto, and Morino.
It follows ancient paths through an area where it's still possible to see signs of past use by farmers, woodcutters, and shepherds. Stones rolled from the mountains, worked to build houses, castles, and churches, but also to reduce the slope of the land for cultivation through the many dry stone walls, threshing floors for threshing grain, and ditches for conveying water to irrigate the fields.
Technical notes for the trail:
The trail alternates shaded sections in the woods with more open and panoramic sections. Ideal for hikers accustomed to long-distance walking. There are continuous ups and downs, some sections on uneven stone, and short steep sections that require sure-footedness and good physical condition. In wet weather, some sections may be slippery.
